Since I began my practice in Sept. 2007 I have helped over 40 clients with social media marketing strategy, implementation and training. I have also taught more than 45 workshops on web 2.0 technologies for business and have spoken at conferences.

Background
I started my career in financial services, where I spent 14 years in sales and marketing as a Vice President at Lehman Brothers. Looking to expand my interests into a more creative environment, I then transitioned into broadcast television and worked as an editorial producer at CNN Financial News for 6 1/2 years. My duties included following and researching the news of the day to come up with compelling segment ideas, finding experts to comment on them, and going on video shoots to gather the visual elements to add depth to the stories. That's where I honed my skills in news gathering, writing and video production. From there I moved on to the internet, writing articles on personal finance for AOL Latino and later editing their welcome page and news channel. After about a year I gained enough confidence in HTML programming, web infrastructure, content and page layout to strike out on my own.

Present
In my current consulting practice I work closely with selected web developers and designers to ensure my clients’ sites are set up to emphasize social interaction and community. I help them select the best social media sites and e-newsletter providers for them and come up with content strategies that have the effect of attracting top quality traffic to the website. Once that's in place I either manage, or teach my clients how to manage, the content flow – whether it’s creating or editing text, video or images. Another important piece is monitoring their presence in the various social networks and reviewing the analytics to make the most of developing trends.

My blog,  Mogulette-in-the-making, which I created in Feb. 2007, has been featured in the New York Times twice and focuses on tools and resources for businesses, solo practitioners, and freelancers. In addition to writing and consulting, I regularly present workshops on emerging Web 2.0 technologies and do customized training.

  • TV Goes Social Conference I admit it - I love reality TV. It's comforting to see the Kardashians deal with family drama, even if it's scripted half the time, and I love watching the Real Housewives (my favs are NY/OC/Beverly Hills) battling over who wins the title for biggest prima donna. However, I hadn't really watched a show until I discovered the banter that goes on in Twitter and other social media in real time, during the actual program. One recent tweets reads: "Khloe and Lamar is back on. And Maleeka loves Robert - I don't know why she's so in denial." I totally agree! Robert needs to piss or get off the pot!
